It’s Saturday morning which means it’s time for ‘Bikini Brunch’ at La Plage, with a luxe pool adjacent to the beachfront restaurant and bar where a DJ spins beats and hip mixologists spin drinks! Known for their fun flare and pink flamingos bursting from every corner, La Plage is the essence of French chic that doesn’t take itself too seriously, even though they have some serious cocktails and seaside bites.
Part of the boutique Le Tom Beach Hotel, La Plage sits right on St. Jean’s beach – a close walk to the swanky shops of St. Jean and of course mere steps from the crystal blue sea. I start under the shade of the restaurant with the swift kick of a jalapeños margarita to wake me up straightaway! However you don’t have to dive right in to something wild – if you’re looking for an ultra-refreshing cocktail they also serve up a grapefruit margarita, cucumber martini, litchi and coconut chili mojitos, just to name a few. The menu likewise offers a wide variety of treats from lighter fare of tapas including tuna tartar, tomato and creamy burrata, and beef carpaccio, to full meals of beef tataki with Thai sauce, Caribbean fish and grilled lobster, all with local flavors by French Chef David Sendron.
This morning the bikini brunch atmosphere is lively and festive, with many taking their drinks and meals right out to lounge chairs on the sand. La Plage is the perfect French café where I can simply enjoy an entire day at the sea eating, drinking, partying, and of course people watching.
The morning sun shifts into a quick afternoon rain to cool everyone off, so we all gather under the shelter of the restaurant for another cocktail. Soon enough the storm passes as it so often does in the islands and we’re back on. The beauty of La Plage is its beachfront party atmosphere where patrons can take a break from it all for a world class party filled with all kinds of different entertainment from fashion shows, international live bands and DJs to other artists who swiftly transform the chill atmosphere into a beach party!
